This feature is currently only available for Funnel reports.
Heap Group Suggestions automatically suggests groupings for a funnel query by proactively analyzing which groupings are most predictive of overall conversion rate. This automates the “guess and check” work of trying different groupings when drilling into the reasons for drop-off in a funnel.
Depending on the nature of your query, the current properties that may be suggested are:
- Landing Page
- UTM Source
- UTM Campaign
- Device Type
- Path
- Referrer
- Country
If you don’t see Group Suggestions appear in your query, it is because the type of query you set up is not one that would prompt the suggestion to group by of one of these properties. The suggested properties listed are ordered left-to-right based on how strongly they are related to the events in your query.
After running a funnel report, you will see a set of Suggestions. You can select one of these to further explore your analysis results. For example, if you have a funnel to track requests for a demo, we may suggest grouping by UTM Campaign, UTM Source, or Landing Page to surface insights in user behavior.

After you’ve clicked on a group by to add it to your query, it will be listed in the query as Suggested for your reference.

You can use the Add Group By button to add additional group bys to this query for additional insights into user behavior. Once you remove the first Suggestion, the rest of the group bys previously suggested will be listed in the drop-down as suggested for you to easily reference.

Note: Group Suggestions will not appear if your analysis is not set up to allow group bys, such as if your funnel is already using compare by.
