Why does a ratio or conversion rate chart have different results in a table chart?

The results of a ratio/conversion chart will differ depending on if you look at the results in a table chart vs. other chart types (line, bar, donut) because those chart types order results by sample size, whereas table orders results by rate.

For example, let’s say you have a conversion chart grouped by country. The bar chart lists Italy, the Netherlands, and France as the countries with the highest conversion rates.

However, the table view lists Cyprus, Venezuela, and Jamaica as the countries with the highest ratio. Italy is shown 6th on the list.

If we hover over Italy in the bar chart, we see it had a conversion rate of 16.7% with 1,026 users completing the first event and 171 users completing the second event. This is a large sample size in comparison to the top countries in the table.

In the table view, Cyrpus had a 50% conversion rate, but it only had 114 users who completed the first event, and 57 users who completed the second event. This is a higher conversion rate than Italy, but a much smaller sample size.
