Overview
Heap automatically captures all available demographic data from Clearbit to easily enrich all your user data and segment your users. With the Clearbit source, you’ll be able to answer questions like:
- How does my conversion rate breakdown by industry?
- Are customers more retained if they use a complementary technology?
- How does feature adoption differ based on company size?
Note that this integration is with Clearbit’s Enrichment product.
Setup
Email Join Key Required
You need to have email addresses attached to your users in Heap to match data between Heap and this source. This property can be set to identity or any custom user property in Heap.
If you are not currently sending email addresses into Heap you will need to use Heap’s APIs to do so. Learn more about attaching email data to users via Heap’s identity API.
Need help? Please post in Community or contact us via the Get support page in Heap.
To connect the Clearbit source, you’ll need to have the following privileges:
- Admin or Architect privileges in Heap
- Access to your Clearbit account or your Clearbit API key
To get started, visit the Clearbit integration in the app and click Set Up in the top right of the page.
You will then be prompted to specify an email property if you haven’t set one up already for your selected environment. The selected user property needs to be the user property associated with your users’ email addresses, as this is the property Clearbit uses when sending Heap data about your users.
Once the email property has been set, you’ll be prompted for your Clearbit API key. The value for your Clearbit API key can be found in your Clearbit dashboard. Please make sure to use your secret key!
Once completed, the source connection page will present Waiting For Data
until the first set of user properties from Clearbit are seen by Heap, at which point the connection status will change to Connected
. Once connected, Heap will automatically enrich all users in Heap with an email address with Clearbit property information every 24 hours. By default, Heap will backfill data for users seen in the past week. Please don’t hesitate to let us know that you’d like for properties to be applied for older users!
Clearbit Reveal Access
These instructions assume that you’re configuring the Clearbit source to enrich identified (email address provided) users in Heap. Please contact us if you’re interested in using Clearbit Reveal data as a source for anonymous user data.
Data Format
Heap will automatically capture all available Person
and Company
attributes from Clearbit for any email address and attach them as user properties in Heap. For a complete list of properties that Heap captures from Clearbit, please refer to their documentation:
Heap will automatically rename each Clearbit property to a human-readable format. For example, the Clearbit property company.site.url
will be presented as Company Website URL
in Heap.
Heap will also attach a property entitled Clearbit: Date Last Checked
to populate the last time this user’s Clearbit metadata was enriched.
Once connected, you can see a complete list of properties captured by Heap and their respective descriptions within the Heap properties within the Clearbit User Properties
section.
